Carolina Chat customers are alloted 10 megs of web page space. There is no extra charge for this service as long as you are a paying member (unlimited monthly access) of the system. All you have to do is make or get a page made by someone and fill out this Web Page Request Form and let us know you are ready to FTP (Use Cute-FTP, WS_FTP or other FTP Programs to FTP your files to ftp.cchat.com, then login with your User-ID and Password) it to our service. Once you notify us, we will create an area for you to store your web page in. This area will be created under your User-ID (i.e. if your User-ID on our system is Jack, we would create a file area for you called JACK). Once this area is created, you will need to upload all of your files individually to your file area. A link will automatically be added to our Member Pages or Business pages as soon as your web page area is setup
All changes can be made by you at any time to your pages and it will take effect immediately after you upload them. You can change your page as many times as you wish. We offer cgi, counters, guestbooks, shopping carts, etc. We also allow you the ability to create subdirectories under your area for file separation. Front Page Extensions are only available to Virtual Domains (yourcompanyname.com). (call us at 764-1900 for more information on Virtual Domains [yourcompanyname.com])
Be sure to name your main .HTM file INDEX.HTM. This will keep you from having to put your entire address (http://members.cchat.com/jack/ if you name your main file INDEX.HTM) in things such as Search Engines, on business cards, etc.
FOR PERSONAL PAGES:
We do require that a link back to our home page be
provided at the bottom of your main .HTM file for providing you
with a web page at no extra cost. The code to do this follows:
<center>
<a href="http://www.cchat.com/"><IMG
align=middle
SRC="/images/cc.gif"></a><br>
</center>
As you can see, the picture does not go directly into your file base. It is referenced from our Images directory for everyone to use and so that it will not take up any of your web space. Please be sure to add this in (required) before uploading your INDEX.HTM file. If this code is not in your main page, your page will be pulled from the service.
FOR BUSINESS PAGES:
If you are putting up a business page, we still require that
you have a reference to our home page at the bottom of your page.
However, the code is a bit different:
<font size=1>
This page hosted by <a
href="http://www.cchat.com/">Carolina Chat,
Inc.</a>.
<br>
A few things to remember when making your pages:
Pictures, Backgrounds and other images are best kept to 30k or less. This helps keep download times lower for visitors to your page and keeps you from eating up all of your web space for one or two pictures.
We will NOT provide "grudge pages" (pages where derogatory remarks are made about an individual or business) to anyone.
Please refrain from using pornographic pictures, backgrounds, images, text, sounds, or others in your pages. If any of the above is found on your page, it will be removed without question and without refund. There are many sites available to you on the internet that are free for that type of material. Carolina Chat is not one of them. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Info on how to make a page for yourself can be found on our Web Development page. You can also check out our Business Pages for companies that do Web Page Design.
Web pages, for the most part, are easy to make. There are several tricks to doing web page design. If you are out surfing on the web and you see a picture that you think you might like to have on your web page, all you have to do is RIGHT mouse click on the graphic itself. A box will come up and one of the options is Save image as. This means you can save the image to your own hard drive to use on your page.
You can also save other peoples HTML code to check out offline and learn how to do the HTML code. This is one of the best ways to learn how to do HTML. All you have to do is go to a page that you like, go to FILE (on your tool bar in your browser) and go down to Save As. This will save the file to your hard drive and you can then pull it up in DOS, your browser, or any other HTML editing program.
